The LT Green Room is a podcast for Renewal, Retooling and Conversations about Learning. It is co-hosted by Susan Manning and Dan Balzer and its show topics are often drawn from members of LearningTimes.org, a free online community of education and training professionals from across the globe. The LT Green Room gives listeners (and ourselves) an opportunity to reflect on what they're doing behind the scene that results in an effective learning experience.

This make me think of a book I read called "Emotional Design" by Donald Norman. The book talks about how we design for three levels of emotion.

Visceral - which is the gut reaction to something - it is what makes us say "I have to have one of those" - impulse items

Behavioral - which is how we interact with it - does it work - how does it perform - etc

Reflective - which is how we remember the experience - was it fun - was the experience satisfying - how might this be better - etc.

I think that online course design can be much improved if we consider these aspects as well when creating a course. Certainly, the first 30-second hook would represent the visceral level as in the picture that grabs us. The questioning speaks to the reflective level and hopefully the layout is good enough to please the behavioral level as well.

Great show!
Thanks
