Dan Balzer

Dan Balzer is a co-host of the LT Green Room.

Dan BalzerI thrive on the challenge of creating effective learning experiences. That interest has taken me into a variety of settings where I have used my instructional design and online facilitation skills.

In the K-12 setting I work with the 21st Century Information Fluency Project at the Illinois Math and Science Academy to assist middle and high school teachers to integrate information fluency activities into their teaching. At the higher education level I worked with faculty for three years developing workshops on topics such as accelerated learning, effective use of electronic publisher resources, and adapting face-to-face courses for the online environment. I also spent three years in West Africa learning to teach in a cultural context very different from my own. Most recently, I have begun designing online training in the corporate sector.

Each of these unique settings, has allowed me to develop and test new approaches to online teaching and learning. A particular area of interest is how to implement scenario-based approaches in online learning. As far as my educational background, I have a BA in History/Religious Studies and an MA in Intercultural Education. Of course, every day is a new learning experience.
